January 24th-28th

We have been busy practicing for our assembly and continuing our learning of tens partner with addition, mapping skills, writing descriptive sentences, and mixing colours. Students should have bought home a rainbow showing tens partners and playdoh to demonstrate how we mixed primary colours to create secondary colours. We created “winter tree and blizzard” art. A link for the character assembly should be coming home this week.

Upcoming Events:

Monday: No school-Teacher PD

Tuesday: informal uniform or wear your special Lunar New Year outfits

Wednesday: Return your library book

Friday: Spelling test and homework is due

Raz-Kids Password Changed

Good Afternoon,

If your child was in school today, they should be coming home with a new password. Unfortunately, a student in another class went into our accounts and used student stars. I have changed passwords to words, instead of pictures, so hopefully this will not happen again. You can glue the password inside the homework book or keep it in a safe place at home. Thanks for your patience in this matter.

January 17th-21st

In Math, we focused on Tens Partner or Friends of Ten Addition Strategy. We think of all the ways that we can make 10. We used the ten frame as a tool to aid in our speed and accuracy.

In Language Arts, we have been focusing on writing more descriptive sentences by using colours, numbers, size and other adjectives to increase the length of our sentences. You can also practice this with your child during homework time.

In Social Studies, we are learning about maps and students will have the opportunity to create a community aerial map at the end of the unit.

We have started our colour unit in Science and will be creating beautiful artwork to demonstrate our skills of mixing colours in future tasks. We also created some snowman "looking up" winter art for the seasonal changes unit.

We created an academic goal and are working hard to make it happen by February. As a result, we have been practicing our song of perseverance for the upcoming assembly. Mrs. Taylor will send a link home soon.

Book orders are due on Friday, January 28th. Our class code is RC184098.

Please refer to Mrs. Taylor’s email regarding masks and test kits. Please check your child’s backpack on Monday.

Upcoming Events:

Monday, 24th: Please have all the correct pieces for the formal uniform, as we are filming our song for the assembly.

Wednesday, 26th: Please return your library book for exchange

Friday, 28th: Spelling test and homework is due.

Monday, 31st: No School-Teacher Professional Development

January 10th-14th

It was great to see everyone in class this week. Students have been working hard this week to learn new skills.

In Math, we have started the doubles addition strategy. We had some visuals that helped us with remembering the addition facts to 20. We also continued working on open-ended word problems and creating new Ways to Make a specific number.

We are practicing writing more descriptive sentences in Language Arts.

In Social Studies, we had discussions about some good deeds that we could do for others and the benefits of this as well as belonging to groups.

We created some name Art to decorate our walls and spent time on revisiting our expected classroom behaviours and routines.

We are having a Character Assembly in late January. Our class is singing a song. Please help your child read and maybe sing along to the words on last week’s blog. Please make sure that your child is wearing their formal uniform each Monday, as we are filming parts of the assembly each week.

Upcoming Events:

Monday: Wear your formal uniform

Wednesday: Return your library books

Friday: Return your homework folders

         Spelling test

         Intramurals will start

Friday, January 7, 2022

In-class Learning will start on Monday, January 10th.

Be sure to stay home if you are not feeling well.

Please keep your homework folder at home until Friday, January 14th. You will need it for this week’s homework. We will have a spelling test on Monday for the spelling words that you were learning over the break, and another test on Friday, 14th for this upcoming week’s words.

If you have some time over the next few weeks, can you please help your child with the words to the perseverance song that we will be doing for our character assembly in late January. You can also listen to the music and sing along. I will put a copy of the words in their poetry folders.
