April 16th-23rd

Be sure to read Mrs. Taylor’s email for weekly updates and reminders.

We continue to work on our Fairy Tales and Building Things Units. This past week, we read Goldilocks and the Three Bears and built a bed, table and chairs.

I was so impressed with one of the students who took all of our spelling words and turned it into a story. (This is one of the new options for practicing our spelling words for homework each week.) I’m hoping to see more of this type of story in the future, even if you can only use a few of the words. It will also help with our writing skills. Awesome work!

"Once upon a time there was a cat with big paws and sharp claws. She saw a man hauling his boat to launch into the ocean. She also saw a lady thawing a fish. She could smell the yummy fish. Would the cat go to steal the fish? No, she would not because her paws were sore from walking all night on the frozen ground."

April 15th-19th

Students have been enjoying our Building Things Unit in Science. We are also tying this into a Fairy Tale Unit in Language Arts. We are looking at story elements, as well as comprehension of the stories and the moral/virtue or character lessons in these fairy tales. So far, we have read the nursey rhyme, Humpty Dumpty and built a wall, Rapunzel and built a tower, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and built a bridge, and The Three Little Pigs and built a house. We are working in small groups, where students have to discuss their ideas and then carry it out by taking turns and working fairly with others. Students have been very creative and are enjoying the different building materials that we are using.

We will also be including some measurement activities with this unit as well.

Upcoming Events

Monday: Wear your formal uniform/Yearbook picture for returning hub students

Wednesday: Return your library books

Thursday: Earth Day

Friday: Return your homework folders/Spelling Test/Music Appreciation Day

April 6th-9th

It was great to be back to school this week! We were excited to see our friends again! I hope that everyone had a great, relaxing break and had lots of fun together as a family!

We had another busy week. We completed our Science Unit of Colour and will be moving onto the Building Things unit in the upcoming week. Students enjoyed a science experiment where they got to separate the colour black. Ask them to describe it to you.

We should complete the Math unit on 2D and 3D shapes next week as well. We experimented with what 3D shapes could stack and roll. We also sorted shapes and discussed the sorting rule using mathematical language. We also made a 3D drawing of some city buildings.

Upcoming Events

Monday: Wear your formal Ramadan clothes or your formal uniform

Tuesday: Wear your formal Vaisakhi clothes

Wednesday: Library Book Exchange

Friday: Homework is due/Spelling test

Please enjoy our daffodil bulletin board to help celebrate the beginning of Spring!
