March 1st -5th

In Language Arts, we continued to create procedural writing for the topics of How to Make a Pizza and How to Build a Snowman. We finished off the week with a Writing Assessment on “My Bad Day”. We read the story, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. We discussed what kinds of things would make us have a bad day and then wrote a “story” about our bad days. Students were expected to have at least four events and use some form of transition words in their writing. I will share these with you during our interview time on Thursday and Friday.

In Math, we finished up with the subtraction strategies of “think addition” and “minus 10”. Students are doing a good job of demonstrating their understanding of subtraction by solving open-ended word problems in several ways.

Upcoming Events:

Monday: Wear your formal uniform

We are filming for our assembly again, so please be sure to have all the correct pieces.

Wednesday: Bring your library books

Thursday: Fun Lunch if you ordered

Full day/Parent-Teacher Interviews from 4-8

Please bring your homework folder and leprechaun trap materials.

We will have a spelling test.

Friday: No School: Parent-Teacher Interviews 8-1

Leprechaun Traps!

Beginning Monday, March 15, the Grade One students will be building Leprechaun Traps. Please help your child plan and collect materials to make a leprechaun trap. The materials and any fasteners that are required, are to be brought to school on THURSDAY, MARCH 11. The students will be making their trap at school in hopes of catching a leprechaun. Each trap should fit on a school desk.
Please DO NOT make the traps at home, as this is part of our new Science unit, entitled, Building Things. You can draw a plan and send it into school along with the materials. Painting of any materials can be done at home, as we will not have time to wait for the paint to dry before putting our trap together. I do have some tape and glue at school that can be used but if you have others you can send them in. Other fasteners may include pipe cleaners, clothespins, paperclips, etc.
Thank you for your support.
